| Group 1
includes three fabricated multi-part components that are
paired with their single-piece permanent-mold replacements.
The railroad ramp control part (extreme upper left) originally
consisted of five steel parts welded together. Next to it is
the lighter-weight casting replacement. This resulted in a 50%
savings to the customer.
Group 2 contains a few
examples of cast-in parts, including threaded steel inserts.
Group 3 consists of
four castings whose main requirement was high mechanical
strength.
Group 4 shows parts
with as-cast internal and external gear teeth, which require
extremely high wear resistance. The curved gear is a section
of a 28-inch-diameter ring gear. |
